YOUTH TOURS

The Manitowoc County Historical Society offers many exciting opportunities for scout troops and youth groups to explore, create, and learn! Whether your group is looking to fulfill badge requirements, attend a special event, or simply enjoy our exhibits, MCHS is a great place to visit.

Pinecrest Village is on the grounds of the Manitowoc County Historical Society complex. Pinecrest Village is a reproduction of a small Wisconsin community during the early 1900s. The buildings form the commercial, social, and political core of a town and they represent several architectural styles of Wisconsin's history. The furnishings, items, and tools in the various buildings used by the Pinecrest Village interpreters are either original pieces or carefully researched reproductions.

Youth Tours and Resources

Guided Experiences

As a result of our school tour surveys, we have developed a new tour layout that allows for more discovery and hands-on learning. Our Discovery Days allow for your students to become immersed in our past and experience our museum at your own pace.

Join our interpretive staff on these specialized tours that take your class throughout the museum to look at different aspects of Wisconsin history.

On our Discovery Days you can tour at your own pace, arriving and departing as you choose. Your visit is self-guided, allowing you more flexibility than our standard field trip options. You can tailor your trip to match your curriculum and class learning goals. We recommend touring in groups of 5 to 10 students with a limit of 1 paid chaperone per group plus teachers and assistants.

Times: Buildings are open from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm with flexible start and end times. An authentic 1870s school time, as well as a lunch time and location, will be assigned to you.

Max Capacity: 200 students per day

The Wisconsin history you read about in text books becomes a vibrant learning experience full of activities for students and teachers to see and do. You can talk with the storekeeper, feel the heat from the blacksmith’s forge, set up a Civil War camp, play games with the local pioneer children and help with the farm chores.

Use the resources on this page to create the perfect experience to bring to life our rich heritage.  Please contact the Historical Society at (920) 684-4445 or programs@manitowoccountyhistory.org for more information or to register for an experience.
