Nestled in the scenic rolling Ice Age Kettle Moraine countryside of Eastern Wisconsin, the Manitowoc County Historical Society is a museum of living history.  Feel the heat from the blacksmith's forge, take part in one-room school lessons, and find your ancestor's name in our archives.  

 

This 60-acre interpretive museum of local history features a Welcome Center with local history exhibits and research services and the outdoor Pinecrest Historical Village - a collection of over 25 historic buildings with period furnishings from Manitowoc County's early settlers.

Summer Hours (May 1 through October 24):

The McAllister House Welcome Center and Pinecrest Historical Village are open May 1 through October 24, Tuesday through Sunday from 9 am to 4 pm.  Closed Monday.

Winter Hours (October 25 to April 30): The McAllister House Welcome Center is open October 25 through April 30, Wednesday through Friday, from 9 am to 4 pm. The Pinecrest Historical Village buildings are not open unless for special programming. Special admission rate for winter hours is $5 per person. 

MUSEUM HOURS

The Manitowoc County Historical Society will offer free admission to active-duty military personnel and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day as a part of the nationwide Blue Star Museums Initiative.

 

The Blue Star Museums Initiative is a partnership between Blue Star Families, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Department of Defense and more than 2,000 museums across the country. It provides free admission to active-duty military identification holders and up to five immediate family members.

BLUE STAR MUSEUM

Daily visitors can enjoy an interpretive digital audio tour of Pinecrest Historical Village on a hand held audio device available at no extra charge. Our "Voices from the Past" tour features information about each of our 25 buildings.

DAILY TOURS

Film, video and still photography is permitted at MCHS for personal, non-commercial use, provided all the following apply:

  • Photos cannot be sold.

  • No tripods are allowed to block outdoor or indoor visitor pathways.

  • Photos must be taken during regular hours and admission must be paid for admittance

  • Professional photo shoots need to have approval from MCHS staff. 

  • All video shoots need approval from MCHS staff

FILM AND PHOTOS

The MCHS Welcome Center is wheelchair and handicap accessible. 

 

Because MCHS' Pinecrest Historical Village simulates the rural environment of the 1800s and early 1900s, some exhibit areas have limited accessibility. This is due to the scale used in historic restorations and the rural setting.

 

Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals requiring wheelchairs for mobility. During special events,trams are equipped to transport visitors. Call ahead for questions about accessibility or to make arrangements at (920) 684-4445.

ACCESSIBILITY

While no pets are allowed on the museum grounds, service animals are permitted for persons with disabilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

SERVICE ANIMALS

Visit our museum store inside the Welcome Center to take a a piece of our local history home with you. Museum admission is not required to visit the Museum Store.

Certificates are available in any denomination. They can be used both for general admission, workshop and camp fees, and store purchases.

Discounts: Seniors, age 65 and older, can receive a 10% admission price discount. MCHS Members receive free admission. 

 

Group rates are available for groups of 20 or more. Please contact MCHS to organize your group tour experience.

DISCOUNTS

Admission is required to view the exhibits at the museum and to attend special events. Admission must be paid at the Welcome Center.

 

Summer and program admission rates include:

Under age 5 is free

Special "Winter Hours" reduced rate of $5 (October 25 to April 30, does not apply to special programs).  During Winter Hours, our Site Stroll is available. While historic buildings of Pinecrest Historical Village are not open, this is your chance to stroll through our 60 acre site.
