Volunteers are a vital part of MCHS’s success as a groundbreaking institution. By donating your time and talent, you help us build toward an exciting future. Join in the fun and become a volunteer! Shifts are available weekdays, weekends, and evenings.  All areas of assistance are needed - office work, welcome center front desk shifts, painting ... there is always something to do and fun to be had!

Between daily activities, evening programs, and weekend events, there's always so much happening at the Manitowoc County Historical Society. We rely on the help of dedicated and passionate volunteers to ensure our visitors have fun and our grounds stay beautiful. Special Events & Programs 

Lend a hand with a variety of tasks at special events and programs like Homegrown Breakfast, Union Soldier Remembers, Vintage Base Ball Games, Buffalo Bill Wild West Show, and more.

 

Welcome Center and Store

Assist visitors with orientation to our museum, making purchase selections, operate the cash register, organize displays and stock merchandise.

 

Group Greeters and Hosts

Welcome tour leaders and wedding rental groups when they arrive at the Manitowoc County Historical Society, provide directional assistance, answer basic questions and escort them to begin their tours. 

 

School Tours

Greet and check-in school tours; provide maps and other information to teachers and group leaders. Lead activities and discussions of areas of our museum and Pinecrest Historical Village. 

 

Maintanance

Assist woodworkers, painters, and grounds crew with behind-the-scenes restorations and reproductions. Assist staff with planting, harvesting and maintaining gardens in the historic areas. Opportunities are also available to discuss and explain the historic gardens to guests.

Adult Volunteers

Learning is the primary focus of the Manitowoc County Historical Society's youth volunteer program.

 

We aim to give talented young people the opportunity to grow through the Manitowoc County Historical Society's enriching environment. If you're passionate about our museum, love speaking to people and enjoy the rewards of old-fashioned sweat and effort, this program may be for you!

 

Youth volunteer opportunities are open for students between the ages of 6-18 (including all current high school students) and include:

  • Playing historical games and leading hands-on activities in modern-day uniform or costume

  • Portraying a character in one of our historic structures

  • Working behind the scenes

  • Assisting in special events
