Historic Preservation Awards Past Winners

Adaptive Reuse Preservation Award

This award recognizes exemplary rehabilitation of historic buildings, including compatible new additions.  A rehabilitation project preserves significant portions and features of a building, including historic changes, while making possible a modern use.  Awards in this category are presented to owners who preserve historic properties through care and maintenance, stabilization, or protection. These awards are open to projects completed within Manitowoc County within the last three years.

Restoration Award

The Historic Preservation Restoration Award recognizes exemplary restorations of historic buildings.  A restoration project accurately preserves or replicates the majority of the original interior and exterior building materials to an earlier condition and appearance based on historical or physical evidence and the same or a related building use is often enabled to continue.  These awards are open to projects completed within Manitowoc County within the last three years.

Preservation Service

This award is presented to persons, groups, businesses or government entities that promote an awareness of Manitowoc County History through exemplary activities, projects, programs, services, or publications.

Bob Fay Award for Lifetime Achievement

The Bob Fay Award for Lifetime Achievement recognizes an individual who has a long and outstanding history of  dedication and distinguished service to the cause of history in Manitowoc County.

Armond Kueter Educator Impact

Established in honor of longtime MCHS leader and volunteer Armond Kueter in 2016 to celebrate and empower outstanding educators, the Armond Kueter Educator Impact Award recognizes a community educator who empowers the next generation to discover the stories of our past.

Lisa Rohrer Volunteer of the Year Award

In 2010, we lost a wonderful volunteer and member of our MCHS family, Lisa Rohrer.  She inspired us with her strength and her ability to overcome challenges.  It is in her memory that we present our Annual Lisa Rohrer Volunteer of the Year award. Volunteers must have completed service to MCHS in the current year.

Dillon Mueller Youth Service Award

Dillon Mueller served his community well as an Eagle Scout and assisted with many projects for MCHS.  It is in his honor and memory that we will present the Dillon Mueller Youth Service Award at our Annual Meeting in January.  Volunteers must be under the age of 21 and have completed volunteer work for MCHS in the last 3 years.

President's Volunteer Service Award

The President’s Volunteer Service Award recognizes United States citizens and lawfully admitted, permanent residents of the United States who have achieved the required number of hours of service over a 12-month time period or cumulative hours over the course of a lifetime.

Square Nail Award

The Square Nail Award is given for long-term volunteer achievement.  The award is given at the discretion of the Manitowoc County Historical Society Board of Directors and Staff.
