Working Warriors: Military Life Beyond Combat
Working Warriors: Military Life Beyond Combat, a traveling exhibit from the Wisconsin Veterans Museum, will be on display at the Manitowoc County Historical Society in June, 2017.
Working Warriors highlights the everyday life of service men and women. About 75% of military work is considered non-combat. These roles rarely make the headlines, but are vital to every military operation.
Exploring the non-combat roles of military service personnel, including work as beauticians, military police, dentists, mechanics, and photographers, this exhibit showcases an often overlooked but highly relatable side of military life.
This exhibit is provided courtesy of the Wisconsin Veterans Museum and is funded in part by the Wisconsin Humanities Council with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities. This exhibit is included in paid admission to the museum. All active military families and veterans receive free admission for the duration of the exhibit.
About the Wisconsin Veterans Museum’s Traveling Exhibits Program
The Wisconsin Veterans Museum’s Marching Across the State traveling exhibits program features four unique exhibits that bring the stories and sacrifices of Wisconsin’s veterans to life. The program aims to make the museum’s exhibits available to a broader audience. Universities, nonprofit groups, and other venues can rent the traveling exhibits free or for a low cost through the museum. This program is funded in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Humanities Council, with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The Wisconsin Veterans Museum is a free public educational activity of the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs and is located at 30 W. Mifflin St., across the street from the State Capitol. The prized Flag of Company A greets visitors and shares its unique story of creation, war, and coming home. An interactive Civil War tent also features hands-on learning opportunities for our young visitors.
