Spanning 60 wooded acres in central Manitowoc County, our campus welcomes you to experience the stories of our past this summer. The Manitowoc County Historical Society offers various outdoor, historically themed exhibits and indoor experiential learning spaces that combine history and art with science, technology, engineering and math to offer an authentic look into history that shapes society today.

A variety of day camps (full and half day options) are described below. Advanced registration is required for each camp.
 

Single Day Session

Tuesday, July 11, 10 am to 3 pm

 

Come spend a day as a Civil War Soldier! Learn how to march and drill, build a tent, cook over the camp fire and more.

Cost is $40 for non-members, $20 for MCHS Members.  

 

1/2 Day Session

Thursday, June 22, 1 pm to 3:30 pm

 

Come try your hand at cooking, like it was done during the times of Laura and Almanzo! Prepare some tasty treats over a wood stove. 

 

Cost is $20 for non-members, $10 for MCHS Members.

Based in the Pritzl General Store, this program will have you working on challenging hands-on exercises with taking inventory, filling orders, and shopping.

Discover your past by learning about your ancestors.  You will learn how to use different archival tools and explore genealogy.

Come and see how our early pioneers would have lived at Pinecrest! Explore the buildings that they would have lived and worked in.  Partake in pioneer chores including laundry, mowing the lawn, and baking.

Little Village on the Prairie (ages 6-10)

1/2 Day Session

Wednesday, June 21, 1 pm to 3:30 pm

 

Assist with tending to various vegetable gardens and explore the role of critters in the garden. Find out how farming has changed over the past century with hands-on techniques. Create garden-inspired snacks to share.

Get ready to play!  Master various pioneer games including rolling hoop, ball and cup, and graces.  Make some of your own games to take home!

Discover the ways of travel at the turn of the 20th century. Activities include: learning railroad signals, making hobo stew, laying track on the Transcontinental Railroad, delivering mail, and more.
