The Amateurs

The Manitowoc County Amateurs are modeled after a city team that played their first season in 1896.  The team played so well that they were considered the champion team.  During that first season the team played every Sunday afternoon for about four months and won 17 out of 20 games.  They played against area teams such as Algoma, Kewaunee and Two Rivers.  To get to away games, the team took a horse-drawn bus.

The current Amateurs Base Ball Club competes against other state clubs including the Greenbush Dead Citys, Eagle Diamonds, Delton Base Ball Club, and the Milwaukee Cream Citys.  With its unkempt home field, underhand pitching and no gloves, the scores can be extremely high. After the game, visitors are encouraged to join the players in practicing the vintage style game.
